Gaining trust is one of the most difficult things for any effective leader to do. It takes patience, humility, and a commitment to doing what is right. But once you have it – everything else becomes so much easier because people know they can count on you to be there when they need you. You will find that your staff starts trusting your judgment, clients start trusting in your ability to negotiate deals, and everyone knows that if they are working with an effective leader then this person has their best interests at heart too!
Always be on time
An effective leader knows time is valuable – both for them and those they are working with. They arrive on the dot, every single day so that their employees know what to expect from them without having to worry about being late or missing out. That way they have earned trust because people can count on you to be there when it counts! Look after your team
An effective leader cares about their employees. They ensure that they are working in a safe environment, with the appropriate tools and equipment to do their jobs well. If you see something wrong – fix it immediately! By taking care of those who work for you so diligently then this conveys the message loud and clear that because your staff is important to you then they are important to the company too.
Be polite to everyone, even if they are rude to you
If someone is rude to you, as an effective leader, you know that this person may be having a bad day – so they treat them with respect. They don’t let the behavior of other people affect their mood because effective leaders are confident in themselves and therefore not worried about what others think of them!
Take responsibility for your actions
There will always be times when effective leaders have to take responsibility for something they may not be proud of. But effective leaders will always own up and say that, yes – this happened on my watch, I should have dealt with it better but instead here is what we are going to do now… It’s a very powerful tool as people can see you’re strong enough to admit when you make mistakes and effective leaders know that if they can get through this tough time together then their team will be even stronger for it!
Be aware of your body language – make sure it’s open and welcoming
An effective leader’s body language is very important. If it says “I don’t want to be here” or even worse – “you’re not worthy of my time” then people will believe you and they won’t feel like bothering talking with you about anything! But if your body language tells them that you are approachable, welcoming and that they are worthy of your time then effective leaders know that people will be more likely to want to work with them.
Be enthusiastic about the company you represent and what it offers
People need passion in their lives – even for things like business transactions! If an effective leader is not interested in the products or services offered by their company, why would anyone else be? Effective leaders are effective because they enjoy what they do and put their heart into it. That enthusiasm is infectious to others too!
Keep eye contact with the person you’re talking to
When effective leaders are talking to someone they don’t look around the room or at their phone. They keep eye contact with that person because effective leaders know it makes them feel important and respected – which builds trust! Effective leaders have good manners so if you want people to trust you then make sure your body language is showing confidence, respect, and politeness.
Know your company and its products inside out effective leaders know everything there is to know about the company they work for. They don’t just do their own bit – effective leaders take a vested interest in what everyone else does because if you want people to trust you then it’s important that they see you care about them too!
Use humor in serious situations (not all the time)
Effective leaders generally have a good sense of humor. They don’t just crack jokes all day long but effective leaders know when it’s appropriate to use their funny bone and that shows other people they are human too! It helps break the ice in tense situations so if you want people to trust you then being able to laugh at yourself is a very powerful tool.
Take a genuine interest in other people effective leaders are not just thinking about themselves – they know that effective leadership is all about caring for the team and making them feel valued too. So effective leaders have open ears, listen to what others have to tell them and then take action on it if appropriate! Effective leaders don’t always come up with ideas themselves they get effective leaders to come up with ideas so that the team is involved and excited about what’s happening!
Listen more than you talk; take care not to interrupt people or finish their sentences for them
Effective leaders know that effective leadership is all about two-way conversations and effective listening. People will only want to work with you if they feel like their opinions matter and effective leaders make sure those people get a chance to tell them what’s on their minds!
Effective leaders take care when they open their mouths. They make sure they don’t say anything that could offend or upset others because effective leaders know it’s all about building trust! If people are not speaking to you then maybe you need to take a closer look at what is coming out of your mouth.
